Ancient Thira is the ancient capital of the island, located on a ridge of the steep, 360m high Messa Vouno mountain. It was named after king Thiras. Ancient Thira can be reached via a winding road that starts at Kamari directly from where our info-centre is located. The archaeological site of Ancient Thira is open daily except for Mondays from 08:30 am until 14:30 pm.
There is a departure per hour from 09:00 to 13:00 to the top of Mesa Vouno mountain where the old capital lies. There, visitors have free time to walk and enjoy the ancient site. Return to Kamari is also scheduled on hourly bases.

If you come to Kamari with the local bus from Fira please ask the driver to let you know which is the stop of Ancient Thira in Kamari. Our office and departure point is located exactly by that bus stop.
There is an additional fee to enter the archaeological site of Ancient Thera.
